Pinterest Monetization Part II - Destinations

Since this is Part II in the Pinterest series let me dive straight in to the next segment of destinations.

Destination specific boards are a great way to capture travel data from a user and provide related information for users. When I look at boards that relate to travel, planning a trip, good travel deals I see a host of opportunities to provide the consumer with deals/opportunities without the consumer having to further research/look for the deals. This in turn also provides a great way for travel companies (airlines/hotels/tour packages etc.) to provide great deals and country tourism departments to get on top of their tourism season. Imagine being able to know in advance who is interested in coming to a certain city/country and interested in specific activities.

Based on other boards within the pinner's boards a few key data points that would be great to derive:

... number of individuals in the family
... are there any kids/their ages
... are there any pets
... proximity to an airport
... the type of travel they have done previously (luxury/backpacking)
... see where they have already traveled to previously
... loyalty to particular brands

Through this data, companies can aim to provide targeted deals specific for the family/individual:

... family deals specific for the number of members in the family (if it's a couple - an all inclusive package to Mexico for two, Disney resort free for kids, etc.)
... deals on kid related activities
... boarding houses for pets (house/dog sitters) OR pet friendly travel location deals
... deals on rides to the airport (Uber/Lyft/SuperShuttle/local taxi companies)
... discounted travel gear
... loyalty deals to locations pinner is interested in (5,000 extra Starwood points)

to be continued...
